Our Walking Holidays In The Alps – France, Italy, Switzerland

All our walking holidays in the Alps are based upon the experience of our founder Duncan Boar, who has been guiding as an International Mountain Leader (IML), in the European Alps since 2010.

The Alps is a fantastic playground, stretching all the way from the French/Italian border to Slovenia, some 600 miles. Between the months of June and September the weather is generally mild and sunny, the snow has moved back above 3,000 metres and there are countless opportunities to walk high alpine trails and cross passes from one country to another. As well as breathtaking views of glaciers and summits you are also likely to catch sight of Marmots, Deer, Ibex and maybe see an Eagle or Lammergeier!

Many of our journeys include an overnight stay in a traditional mountain hut or refuge. Perched high above the valleys, between 1800 – 2500 metres, they are a fantastic place to relax after a days walk, where you can sit and watch the sun set, whilst the hut guardians are preparing a 3 course evening meal.

Each year, all our routes are re-checked prior to the start of the trekking season and our trip notes are updated. We also keep in touch with each of the accommodation venues provided to ensure that the high standards we expect for our customers, are maintained.

Our walks in the Alps include the following diverse itineraries:

  • The classic ‘Tour du Mont Blanc’, the circular walk around Mont Blanc, at 4810 metres, the highest mountain in the European Alps.
  • Freedom Trails – following in the footsteps of allied soldiers, who escaped from Italian prisoner of war camps in World War 2 and crossed the Alps or Dolomite mountains to reach neutral Switzerland and freedom.
  • The ‘Italian Haute Route’, a classic trail following a journey from Courmayeur to Zermatt, on the ‘Sunny side’ of the Alps and including a visit to the Grand Saint Bernard pass and a crossing of the Theodulo Glacier.

Please note: Apart from the self-guided walks, all our holidays are for groups of six or more only.

``We totally trusted Duncan's abilities and always felt safe with him. He always shared the map with everyone which put everyone at ease knowing that we were on course. He never made anyone feel rushed and made sure that everyone was well hydrated and doing well. Duncan's friendly and easy going personality was the catalyst for our group (about 10 people) becoming close friends who shared many laughs and good times. We still have fond memories of that trip and still stay in touch with Duncan and some of the others in our group. We hope to do one of the ww2 historical hikes soon.``

Bears ,wolves & stags (Autumn 2018). In the mountain region of Abruzzo, halfway down the spine of Italy, the mountains and forests are still occupied by the Marsican Brown Bear, Wolves and Wild Boar. In October, above the mountain town of Scanno, the stag rut is in full flow. Join us for guided treks out into the mountains in search of opportunities to see the animals.
